Privacy policy
Effective August 2026. Written in plain language on purpose — this is the policy.
What we collect
Account. Vylo works with an anonymous account created automatically on first launch. If you verify your account, we store the email address you provide — nothing else about your identity is required. We never ask for your contacts, phone number, or real name.
Location.We use your device location only while you are actively using the app, to show what's happening nearby. We do not track your location in the background, and we do not keep a history of where you've been. When you publish a post, the location you attach to that post is stored with it so people nearby can see it.
Content. Posts, comments, questions, and answers you publish are stored and shown publicly to people in your area. Photos are re-encoded on your device before upload, which removes all hidden metadata — including the GPS coordinates cameras embed in image files.
Diagnostics.We collect crash reports and simple usage events (for example, "a post was published") to keep the app working. These are tied to a random identifier, not to your email.
How your location is protected
Posts in sensitive categories are shown at an approximate location to protect you. Public link previews on the web never include exact coordinates or street addresses — only the city-level area. We never attach your exact home address to anything.
How long we keep things
Posts are short-lived by design: they expire within hours and are permanently purged from our servers 14 days after expiry. If you delete your account (Settings → Delete account), your account, posts, comments, photos, and reactions are deleted immediately and community counts are recomputed as if they had not happened.
What we don't do
We don't sell your personal data. We don't share it with data brokers or advertisers. We don't require contacts, microphone, or background location to use the core experience. Your data is processed by our infrastructure provider (Supabase) solely to run the service.
Children
Vylo is not directed to children under 13 (or the higher minimum age your country requires), and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
